The men's swimming team began the 1970s as possibly the College's most dominant program, going 11-1 and winning the MAC Championship in 1969-70. Al Hershey '64, a two-time All-American in men's soccer at Etown in the early sixties, came back to coach the team in 1968 and led it to an 11-2 record, and Wright came back in 1969 and guided the team to a 10-2-3 mark. The accomplishments of the last few years have been impressive: the men's cross country team is currently riding a streak of five straight conference titles; it finished 14th in the nation in 2001 and 15th in the nation at the NCAA championships in 2002, and won its first regional title ever in 2002.
