Duke D.C. Summer Institute was started in 2013 to engage undergraduate students who are considering the pursuit of a law degree. Cornell University Pre-Law Summer Program in New York City This intensive, six-week program taught in New York City features a four-credit course, Introduction to the American Legal System, taught using the Socratic method used at most U.S. law schools. Economic and Workforce Development, York The entire program is facilitated by scholars and experts in the legal field. Law Applicants are required to attend the entire summer session, which takes place in August, to qualify. They are well aware that the reason many underrepresented students dont have law school opportunities is a result of the lack of resources to effectively prepare for the LSAT. Courses taught in the evening accommodate students and professionals as a complement to Capitol Hill and other D.C.-based positions and summer internships. The 2-week program includes mini-law school classes and an application workshop. There are a variety of writing assignments that students will submit throughout the program, all of which will be critiqued. McKinney School of Law through Indiana University offers a pre law summer program that is specifically geared towards underrepresented groups. This opportunity is designed for undergraduate students who are considering attending law school. One of the programs is the London Internship Program. Undergraduate The program is structured in two two week sessions where there are specific classes offered. They are offered on the points system, meaning each student will participate in 12 points worth of programming if they do both summer sessions. PLSI is an intensive two-month program which prepares American Indian and Alaska Native individuals for the rigors of law school by essentially replicating the first semester of law school. Participants will work and board just a few blocks from all of the major courthouses that New York City has to offer. Pre Prelaw - New York University ALSO Launching Your Career Seminar Series: For several weeks in the spring, participants will visit sponsoring law firms, where they will have an opportunity to learn about resume/cover letter writing, interviewing skills, presentation skills, office etiquette, legal writing, and career development/mentorship. The program provides targeted services that address some of the most common barriers to admission to law school, and helps students effectively navigate the law school admissions process. All students who participate will work with mentors to prepare for the LSAT, law school applications, and understand the inner workings of the legal system. Many of them offer residency opportunities for a further immersive experience that is hands-on and all-inclusive. In addition to providing mentoring and pre-law advising during the school year, the program hosts eligible college juniors and seniors for a series of weekend sessions in which students gain valuable knowledge about the law school admission process, learn writing, analytical, and logical reasoning skills, develop study techniques for taking the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), and explore career paths available to law school graduates.
